yWriter
Windows, Linux, Android
yWriter is a completely free writing suite developed by Simon Haynes. The current version is yWriter6 with yWriter7 in beta. It is also one of the few writing suits that has developed a version for Linux. It doesn't pack the punch that scrivener does, but it will allow you to organize your thoughts using a scene based approach to writing. I found it easy to use but it was lacking some organizational tool.
Review
Technically yWriter is classified as a word processor, with some organizing tools. When I tried it last I was looking for a tool to organize a large world building project. Reading over the feature list I noticed that the author has added a couple new features since I used it last one of which being a storyboard function. it allows one to break your writing into chapters and scenes. It also gives you tools to track characters. When I tried it, I found it very easy to use but it was lacking some organizational tool that I really needed. I would suggest this for someone that is trying to write their first novel and doesn't want to spend the money on something else.
