Sometimes the Lesson is There isn't a Lesson.

With my current health issues, I don't get out of the house a lot. I have had to miss many things because of this in my children's lives. But Saturday I was actually able to be present for my oldest daughter Madeline's horse show.

It was a pretty big day. Madeline got her first ribbon at a horse show. Rayne (her horse) performed amazingly all day. Yes, it was hot, and yes I had a layer of dust that covered my entire body and two covering my eyes. But it was worth it.

Hannah Faith and I weathered the heat to be a part of the day. I found that I was able to relax for what might be the first time in a very long time. But true to my nature I was continually on the lookout for any life lessons I could squeeze out of the event.

I never found one but I did find a day without drama and conflict. I learned, unlike traditional sporting events, horse shows are basically a bunch of people that get together to play with their horses in a spirit of community while not letting the competition to override their civility.

There was this one girl that I will never forget. She was really young (I am guessing maybe seven or less). She was so small on this big horse it almost seemed comical. Her form was off but she didn't care in the least bit and you could tell by her face. She carried a smile that I can't properly describe with words that spoke to pure fun and enjoyment.

If I live to be a hundred I hope I never forget her face as she would round the arena. It was the highlight of her day just to get to ride and she made my life better just because she was happy.

As far as any life lessons I learned, I found none as I mentioned earlier with the exception of this. Sometimes the lesson is learning that there doesn't have to always be a life lesson. Some days are just meant to be good days that refresh one's soul.
