Growth

I was reminded not too long ago,

of how with our eyes we see things grow.

The seed of a tree in the warm earth,

as it breaks the ground in a sprouts birth.

The sprout of it’s gene to saplings first days,

is but a brief stop on a tree’s way.

Maturity to come with strong roots to hold,

still not a tenth of it’s story told.

Then one day we look back and see,

what once was a seed is now a great tree.

We remember seed, sprout, sapling to full growth,

but of the time between we take of-no note.

A name for each stage-a fraction of time,

as the sum of it’s growth slips our mind.

Yet not just a tree do we see in this way,

but also the people around us each day.

In stages with name their sum they seem,

And we miss out on the life in between.
