I was reminded, not too long ago, of how with our eyes we see a thing grow.
The seed of a tree in the warm of the earth, as it breaks the ground in a sprout's birth.
The sprout of its gene to sapling's first days. is but a brief stop on a tree’s way.
Maturity to come with strong roots to hold, still not a tenth of its story told.
Then one day we look back and see, what once was a seed is now a great tree.
We remember seed, sprout, saplings full growth, but of the time between, we take of-no note.
A name for each stage only a fraction of time, as the sum of its growth slips through our mind.
Yet not just a tree do we see in this way, but also the people around us each day.
In stages with names their sum they seem, And we miss out on all the life in between.
