The Lie

Updated: Mar 1, 2020

I looked into her face, but it was not her face, only of it. A picture capturing a single moment in time, but pictures lie for as I looked into smiling eyes I saw much more. Somewhere deep inside, my soul cried. Not of outrage but of sorrow as I understood that the smiles were for the world to see and I felt in that place too often ignored or destroyed by selfishness that there was pain, and sorrow and longing in that moment captured and immortalized. It was hidden just behind the photograph; the lie of that moment. Yet, it revealed, either by the divine or delusion who can say. Both ways it was real and unsettling as my heart broke.
